Which test is for me?

At 16 you can take a test on a 50cc moped. On passing you can ride any moped or motorcycle up to 50cc.

At 17 or older you can take one of the following two tests:

  • Category A1 test, taken on a motorcycle between 75cc and 100cc. On passing you can ride a motorcycle up to 14.6 bhp (around 125cc).
  • Category A2 test, taken on a 125cc motorcycle that is capable of at least 62.5 mph. On passing you can ride a motorcycle up to 33bhp for two years. At the end of this period you are entitled to ride any size machine (category A status on your driving licence).

At 21 or older you can take the Category A test via the Direct Access Scheme (DAS). The test must be taken on a motorcycle over 46.6bhp (around 500cc).

On passing you can ride any size motorcycle straight away.

See the 'Training Courses' section in the left-hand column for information about the courses we offer to prepare you for the various different motorcycle tests.

We are very fortunate that our main training site is situated in Quedgeley Gloucester very close to the new DSA test center that conducts the old and new motorcycle tests for Gloucester and soon to cover the whole of Gloucestershire covering Cheltenham stroud Tewkesbury Dursley Forest of dean Newent ect.
We are confident of keeping our near 100% pass rate when the new test arrives as we have already had our trainees taking mock 125 A2 tests and DAS direct access tests.
